Good morning beautiful people,

I hope everyone enjoyed their 4th of July celebrations and ate tons of cookout food….I had a pretty low key day. My family and I celebrated with friends as we do every year and finished the day of with fireworks that were incredible. I’m heading out to New Orleans for the essence music festival and I’m super excited. This will be my first time going and I’m looking forward to a great time with my girlfriends. I will take tons of pictures and share my experience with you.

As always thank you for stopping by…. Have a glammy good day……

Thrifted from head almost to toe

20120604-225206.jpg

Good morning luvs,

As I have mentioned in several posts before, I absolutely love thrifting. I think its that whole element of surprise. You never know what your going to luck up on. More often than none, I always seem to find something that I love on my thrifting adventures. One thing that I love about thrifting is that you can find unique pieces that everyone won’t necessarily have. It allows my creative juices to flow on how I’m going to style something that may be ugly as hell to the average person. But I see beyond that and always think of ways that I can reinvent a piece and make it hip and current. My look for the day is completely thrifted minus the shoes. The blouse is gap. I paid $2.00 for it. The blazer is Zara and I paid $6.00 for that. Jeans Ralph Lauren for $2.00 and the belt is Jill Stuart I paid $8.00 for it. My shoes are from Dillards, I believe I paid about $40.00 for them. Oh I almost forgot about my clutch………..thrifted $1.00…………..
Is anyone else obsessed with thrifting like me?

Color Blind

20120603-231749.jpg

Happy Monday Glam Dolls,

I hope everyone’s weekend was great. I had a lot of time to relax & spend time with my daughters. yesterday my girlfriend and I went to eat lunch at Carrabbas. I received an invite from them to come for a complimentary lunch to taste some upcoming dishes they will be adding to their menu. Everything was incredible. I enjoyed everything from the appetizers to the dessert. Did I mention this is one of my favorite restaurants….. I have been eating there for years and I literally order the same entree every time. So it was really nice to sample other options that they have to offer. I wore this oh so comfy thrift store buy. The so I thought, red dress. I had this dress for at least 6 months. When my cousins were here to visit I showed one of my cousins the dress and referred to it as being red. She said you must be color blind because this dress clearly is orange. When I took a closer look, I realized it was more orange than red. So I refer to it as the orange red dress now. What color does it look like to y’all?

Scarf Prints

20120530-185624.jpg

Every since the Spring/Summer 12 catwalk for D&G it was obvious that scarf print will become a major trend for the season. It was not just a few pieces in any collection, it was the domineering theme of the last ever D&G collection before it gets absorbed into Dolce and Gabbana (making it a super brand). The Italian duo put a lot of work in to makes sure the line goes out with a bang: vibrant, sexy, very youthful and trend-setting, this is exactly how we will remember D&G.

Yet scarf print is not new, Versace and Etro are two brands that most closely have been associated with it for years, but thanks to D&G the print is back and it’s big, migrating it out of my grandma’s closet and to the wish lists of all fashionistas. Below are the classics-gone-youthful from Versace and Etro.

But as always I am a firm believer that you don’t have to break the bank to get on board with the latest trend. I purchased my shirt for a whopping $10.00 from H&M. And if you dare, do mix the prints and colours up in the outfit – clashing is so in!

Floral Shirtdress

20120522-234401.jpg

Happy hump day glammy gals.

We are half way through the week- wooohoooo. Today I’m wearing 2 trends in one. The floral print on a Shirtdress. When I spotted this dress a few months ago, I knew I had to have it. The bright colors captured me with the modern floral pattern. It’s the perfect length for me and provides nice coverage for my arms. It came with a belt, but I swapped it out with this cobalt blue thrift find that I love love. This dress is versatile it can be paired with flats for a casual comfortable look or jazzed up a bit with heels, how I’m wearing it today.

How would you style this dress?

A Family Affair II

Good morning glammy gals,

I’m so glad it’s Thursday and I made it through what I consider the roughest days of the week. I’m still trying to catch up on all of the sleep I missed over the weekend. I miss my family already and am anticipating the next time I see them again. It’s so refreshing being around people that truly know and understand you.
Shout out to the Damon girls we are a unique bunch….

I want to introduce you guys to more of my cousins.
First we have Moe, I consider her as a sister too, we have shared so many great experiences from childhood to adulthood. Moe is so smart & articulate. She is the more serious one out of the bunch but don’t get it twisted she definately knows how to let her hair down & have fun too. She was my maid of honor when I got married and is near & dear to my heart…luv you Moe. Xoxo

Next we have Phyl. She is absolutely beautiful and I’m so proud of the young lady that she has become. Her personal style is elegant & edgy and she has a closet that most women could only dream of. She is in the process of launching an online vintage boutique, I have seen some of the pieces that will be available for purchase and they are haute….. I love this chick because we relate on so many levels. She also named my little princess (Jaelyn Monet) I will be featuring her here when Ying to Yang goes live- stay tuned….luv you Phyl…….xoxo

Thanks for stopping by, have a glammy good day

A Family Affair

Good morning glammy gals….
I’m sorry for the lack of posts last week. I was preparing for my family that came to town from New Jersey. My mother’s day weekend was phenomenal. There’s nothing better than being surrounded by family. All 4 of my mother’s sisters came to town and all of my closest cousins & their kids. We had a ball. We ate good, we tailgated at a local event called the funk fest and topped it off with a special mother’s day tribute to our mothers. I was sad to see them leave but I will hold this weekend in my heart forever.

This is what I wore to the funk fest. It was a comfortable combination & no fuss. Which is a must when dealing with this Florida heat.

First pic is of my older sissy Dee. She is the most Aggy person in life but I love her so much and she has the biggest heart. I would do anything for her. She always made me feel good when I didn’t feel so good about myself. She supports me in everything I set out to do. She is my biggest cheerleader. Love you sissy…..xoxo

Next we have my cousin Ke but I consider her my sissy too. We have been tight forever and a day. Her personality is like no other. Her best quality is her slick words and her loyalty to her family and the ones she loves. As you can see she is a curvy chick and rocks it well. You will never see her out half stepping. Love you Ke…..xoxo

Last but certainly not least we have Stan. He may look familiar from a previous post ( Stan’s World) I love this guy, so funny and he so gets my love for thrifting. Maybe because he thrifts just as much. We tore the local thrift stores up while he was here. Love you little cuz …..xoxo

For the remainder of the week I will introduce you guys to more of my fabulous family.

As always thanks for stopping by and have a glammy good day……..

Pretty Face

It always perplexed me when people would say to me ” you have such a pretty face” I always took that as an insult rather than a compliment. Even though I’m sure the person saying it didn’t mean it in a negative way. But why wouldn’t you just simply say ” your a pretty girl” just as you would if you were to compliment someone that was at an acceptable size. Sometimes we don’t know the long term affects we can have on people with our words….. I know people that have been told things about their appearance so much growing up
that they end up believing it to be true, because they’ve heard it so much.

Let’s be mindful of what we say because words are powerful….

Unlikely Pair

Happy Monday all. I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. If you ask me it came & went too soon. But that’s every weekend…. but anywho…….

Friday, my girlfriend Lawanda must have been peaking in my window. We both showed up to work with red jeans on. She paired hers with a teal blue shirt & I wore a multi printed shirt with pinks, oranges
and hints of green. Again showing you can go many routes with red.

Lawanda & I have very different style approaches. We are definately an unlikely pair of friends (let everyone else tell it). We met about 3 years ago & have been inseparable every since. We have so much fun together & she always has my back in every situation & I  keep her balanced because she is all over the place (scatter brains I call her) but I luv her so much…….She tends to sport girly laid back looks with flats or wedges( her fave) I on the other hand don’t even feel right when I don’t have a heel on. I’m used to wearing them on a daily basis… As a matter of fact I only own 1 pair of flats. But as the summer months approach I do want to start looking for some really cute flat sandals & comfy wedges. We will be attending the essence festival in July & I know there will be a ton of walking for those few days. So if anyone comes across oh so cute flats & wedges. Send pics.
