Scarf Prints

20120530-185624.jpg

Every since the Spring/Summer 12 catwalk for D&G it was obvious that scarf print will become a major trend for the season. It was not just a few pieces in any collection, it was the domineering theme of the last ever D&G collection before it gets absorbed into Dolce and Gabbana (making it a super brand). The Italian duo put a lot of work in to makes sure the line goes out with a bang: vibrant, sexy, very youthful and trend-setting, this is exactly how we will remember D&G.

Yet scarf print is not new, Versace and Etro are two brands that most closely have been associated with it for years, but thanks to D&G the print is back and it’s big, migrating it out of my grandma’s closet and to the wish lists of all fashionistas. Below are the classics-gone-youthful from Versace and Etro.

But as always I am a firm believer that you don’t have to break the bank to get on board with the latest trend. I purchased my shirt for a whopping $10.00 from H&M. And if you dare, do mix the prints and colours up in the outfit – clashing is so in!

Chambray Crazy

20120524-080759.jpg

Happy Thursday…….

When I sit and think of fashion trends that have come & gone throughout the years, there are just a few that have stuck around. Which I guess if it’s still a staple piece, we really wouldn’t consider it a trend but rather a classic. The chambray shirt is something that the majority of us own, and more than likely have had it for some time now. Jean chambray shirts have made a huge comeback within the last few years. This versatile piece can be worn to an after 6 affair, a day at the beach, on a date and also be worn simply running around to do errands. It’s so many ways this shirt can be worn, the options are endless. Here are just a few ways you can wear the chambray shirt.

Floral Shirtdress

20120522-234401.jpg

Happy hump day glammy gals.

We are half way through the week- wooohoooo. Today I’m wearing 2 trends in one. The floral print on a Shirtdress. When I spotted this dress a few months ago, I knew I had to have it. The bright colors captured me with the modern floral pattern. It’s the perfect length for me and provides nice coverage for my arms. It came with a belt, but I swapped it out with this cobalt blue thrift find that I love love. This dress is versatile it can be paired with flats for a casual comfortable look or jazzed up a bit with heels, how I’m wearing it today.

How would you style this dress?

Good morning beautiful people……

I can hardly believe that the month of May is almost over. The summer months are quickly approaching. Soon I will have to retire my blazers and I’m not too happy about that. I tend to throw a blazer on with just about anything. It somehow completes a look, not to mention they hide my less than perfect flabby arms. So I will have to find other ways to cover up this summer but at the same time stay cool. Any suggestions are welcome…….

Lunch with the gals

Good morning gals……
How was your weekend? Mine was too short as usual. Yesterday me & my girls took a drive to St. Augustine Fl. To try out a seafood restaurant that we heard so much about. We were so disappointed with our experience there. The crabs were bland with no seasoning, and it didn’t make it any better that we were served a mixture of vegetable oil & and imitation butter blend for our dipping sauce. The oysters were even worse. They smelled like they were freshly picked from swamp water & were not steamed to my liking. But I must say I did enjoy the dock out back where we eventually went to chat & take pictures. Needless to say we won’t be heading down 95 anytime soon to return to Outback crab shack. But besides the horrible food it was great being with my girls to celebrate one of my closest friend’s birthday. Happy Birthday Rachel. Love you boo…….

A Family Affair II

Good morning glammy gals,

I’m so glad it’s Thursday and I made it through what I consider the roughest days of the week. I’m still trying to catch up on all of the sleep I missed over the weekend. I miss my family already and am anticipating the next time I see them again. It’s so refreshing being around people that truly know and understand you.
Shout out to the Damon girls we are a unique bunch….

I want to introduce you guys to more of my cousins.
First we have Moe, I consider her as a sister too, we have shared so many great experiences from childhood to adulthood. Moe is so smart & articulate. She is the more serious one out of the bunch but don’t get it twisted she definately knows how to let her hair down & have fun too. She was my maid of honor when I got married and is near & dear to my heart…luv you Moe. Xoxo

Next we have Phyl. She is absolutely beautiful and I’m so proud of the young lady that she has become. Her personal style is elegant & edgy and she has a closet that most women could only dream of. She is in the process of launching an online vintage boutique, I have seen some of the pieces that will be available for purchase and they are haute….. I love this chick because we relate on so many levels. She also named my little princess (Jaelyn Monet) I will be featuring her here when Ying to Yang goes live- stay tuned….luv you Phyl…….xoxo

Thanks for stopping by, have a glammy good day

A Family Affair

Good morning glammy gals….
I’m sorry for the lack of posts last week. I was preparing for my family that came to town from New Jersey. My mother’s day weekend was phenomenal. There’s nothing better than being surrounded by family. All 4 of my mother’s sisters came to town and all of my closest cousins & their kids. We had a ball. We ate good, we tailgated at a local event called the funk fest and topped it off with a special mother’s day tribute to our mothers. I was sad to see them leave but I will hold this weekend in my heart forever.

This is what I wore to the funk fest. It was a comfortable combination & no fuss. Which is a must when dealing with this Florida heat.

First pic is of my older sissy Dee. She is the most Aggy person in life but I love her so much and she has the biggest heart. I would do anything for her. She always made me feel good when I didn’t feel so good about myself. She supports me in everything I set out to do. She is my biggest cheerleader. Love you sissy…..xoxo

Next we have my cousin Ke but I consider her my sissy too. We have been tight forever and a day. Her personality is like no other. Her best quality is her slick words and her loyalty to her family and the ones she loves. As you can see she is a curvy chick and rocks it well. You will never see her out half stepping. Love you Ke…..xoxo

Last but certainly not least we have Stan. He may look familiar from a previous post ( Stan’s World) I love this guy, so funny and he so gets my love for thrifting. Maybe because he thrifts just as much. We tore the local thrift stores up while he was here. Love you little cuz …..xoxo

For the remainder of the week I will introduce you guys to more of my fabulous family.

As always thanks for stopping by and have a glammy good day……..

Introducing Shaneka

You gotta admire a woman who rocks color, and does it with style! So when I first visited Shaneka’s blog, I just couldn’t stop clicking. Shaneka style’s reflects what I love about fashion – it’s fun, it’s funky and it’s fabulous, and those wide leg pink pants are EVERYTHING! As a woman who loves mixing prints and color, I was enthralled by her style. I want to also give a shout out to Shaneka for her successful weight loss journey, you go girl! It’s my pleasure to introduce Shaneka and her lovely blog skinnyphatglammygal.

So tell us more about yourself, who is Shaneka?

My name is Shaneka Fowler. I’m a 32 year old New Jersey native, currently residing in sunny Florida. I’m a wife and mother of 2 fantastic daughters. I have always loved fashion and anything esthetically beautiful to the eye. I lost over 100 pounds throughout the last few years and I must say it has changed my life tremendously. I am a bargain and sales rack junkie. Everything that I do in my life, I do it passionately.

How did you get your start in blogging? What can we expect to find on your blog?

I’m new to the blogosphere. I just started blogging 4 months ago. I’m very shy so it was a back and forth battle with myself as to if I should do it. I felt I had a unique viewpoint to offer because I’ve been on both sides where weight is concerned. So far it has helped me rid of my awkwardness about being in front of the camera, but more so speaking on personal issues that I dealt with being overweight all of my life. Blogging has given me a sense of empowerment over my insecurities that I still today am tasked with addressing. You can expect to find OOTD posts showcasing my personal style, conversations about weight, thrifting, my lifestyle and of course FASHION. Let’s just say anything that is on my mind.

What are three of your favorite items in your closet?

I love everything in my closet, But If I have to narrow it down to 3 things. It would be my pink wide legged pants because they are so vibrant and they can transition from the office to a night out with the gals. I also am really feeling my chambray shirt because it’s a staple piece as well. Lastly my very latest purchase. My black all season mini black leather dress. It fits me like a glove and is timeless.

Who are your style icons, where do you get your inspiration?

My style icons hands down would be my mother and Aunt Monica. As a child I was amazed by their great sense of style and how they put their looks together effortlessly, always finding designer pieces and never paying the full retail price. I get my inspiration from other bloggers and things around me that I see on a daily basis.

What trends are you wearing this Spring/Summer?

Spring/ Summer 2012 I will be rocking my bright neon colors, my floral skater dresses and I can’t leave out my maxi skirts and dresses

Anything else?

Many thanks to you for featuring little ole me. It’s such an honor. Also thank you to all of my glammy followers.

Fade to blue

When I was out thrifting a few weeks ago, I found this shirt that I fell in love with. I love the ombre look with how its a light to dark effect. It reminds me of tye dying t-shirts back in the day as a kid. The fit is perfect & it has the button detail on the sleeve for making it short sleeve. The best part about it is I only paid $5.00 for it

image

The jeans that I’m wearing are from last year. I got them from Dillards for less than $20.00. What a steal for Ralph Lauren jeans.

My belt is another thrift store find that I lucked up on. Authentic Gucci for less than $10.00- can
